In a change for users in the United States, Google now refers to the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America."

According to a Google blog post, the Gulf of Mexico will appear as "Gulf of America" for US Maps users, "Gulf of Mexico" for Mexican users, and both names for everyone else. Google justified the change by referencing the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) maintained by the US Geological Survey. The company also mentioned a possible renaming of Mount Denali to Mount McKinley, contingent on an official database update prompted by a Trump executive order that aimed to "honor American greatness."
